Hitler’s Mustache

“Of course the handlebar mustache of the day before yesterday was a far more formidable affair than the hemstitched line on the upper lip of our own motion-picture idols or the little brush copied from Charlie Chaplin by the late, unlamented Adolf Hitler.” Historian John Tasker Howard.

I always wondered how Hitler’s mustache came about. This historian was given the honor of writing historical notes in a book of songs by Stephen Foster, (Camptown Races, Oh Susanna) so he is a respected scholar. I’d like to take his word for it because I am tired of seeing pictures of Hitler and wondering, “Where did he come up with the idea that a mustache like that was attractive?”
