Lost Tribes of Israel… Ireland? Scotland? The Celts?

Standard

Secret GenealogyThe Tribe of Dan was one of the Twelve Tribes of Israel. Dan was the fifth son of Jacob (Israel). One day I saw a website that claimed that Celts were descendants of a mix of several of the Twelve Tribes of Israel. Proponents of this theory insist that the Irish descend from the ancient Hebrew tribe of Dan and that Irish tribal name of “Tuatha de Daanan” identifies them.SecretGenealogyIIFrontCover They go further and state that the Danite symbol is the eagle and that they discovered America twice, once in the B.C. era and then later as Vikings. Today the eagle is America’s iconic symbol. A peek into the dictionary reveals the following:

Hebrides – Group of islands off the west coast of and belonging to Scotland

Hibernia – Ireland

Heb., Hebr. – Hebrew(s)

Hebraic – pert. to the Hebrews or their language

The Art of the Ancient Celts of Britain

Standard

What skill the ancient Celts had developed by 1800 B.C.E. Their bronze working was quite impressive, especially their colorful enameling. Sometimes their axes, spears, swords and daggers were adorned with colorful stones. Imagine beautiful women with semi-precious stones embedded into hair ornaments and men with colorful brooches fastening their cloaks. When gazing at their art, one can’t help but wonder what thoughts went through these artists’ minds as they created such beauty with lines so fluid.

What’s the Difference Between Scot and Scotch?

Standard

The English and the Americans may say “Scotch” but in Scotland it’s “Scots”. (Scotch is whiskey). It’s easy to be confused, “Scotch” whiskey is made by the Scottish and there were many colonial immigrants to America known as Scotch-Irish, really Scots-Irish. If you are fortunate enough to go to Scotland you may want to pronounce it as Scot instead of Scotch. The Scotch version has been accepted as colloquial but the literary version and more pleasing to the Scots is … Scot.

Did Hitler Help Inspire the Vegetarian/Spiritual Movement that Gained Strength in the 1960’s?

Standard

First I heard that Hitler was a vegetarian. That was long after I had become a vegetarian and it left me with strange thoughts. Then I saw this old documentary about the Nazis and the occult. It left me feeling odd and curious to see these early Nazis swimming in the woods, enjoying the pleasures of nature and hearing of their desire to return to a simpler time. They were familiar feelings. They were my feelings during the 1970s. Unfortunately, a movement that could have been shared and not thought of as ethnocentric wasn’t. And what culture didn’t spring from simpler times? But perhaps those who were not Nazis yet still a part of this new trend of thought, brought these beautiful ideas of nature loving and eating holistically to their new places of immigration long before the Nazis turned it into something frightfully grotesque. Perhaps it was even early Jews who sensed all was not well and left their beloved German homeland before it was too late. Whoever or however the movement was spread, I am grateful. Nature is beautiful.

Kilt Clad Celts Offend Women

Standard

During the Middle Ages men in the Scottish Highlands were wearing their kilts a little too short. For when they were jaunting uphill, stooping or the wind caught it just right, women could see a man’s private parts and some were disgusted. Thinking themselves decent and civilized, some of the women of the Scottish Lowlands were not pleased with the spectacle. Although it is said that the style of a man’s purse hung about the waist helped to conceal that which had offended the women.
