Contemporary Politics … Ancient Policies

As I read about the ancient kingdoms of Sumer, Ur, Babylon, Akkad, etc, it’s amazing how world politics don’t seem to have changed. Kingdoms that grew strong enough to overpower a larger kingdom did so. Babylon, which was once a glorious kingdom was eventually laid to waste as a “backwater of civilization”. Domains situated far from their ruling centers of administration were lost as was prime agricultural land. Incoming marauders destroyed architecture and libraries; cultural emblems that took painstaking years to build were demolished. This was thousands of years ago yet it mirrors contemporary news. Nothing new under the sun?
