Genealogy: Digging Deeper Into Spanish Ethnicity

During the 11th and 12th centuries, in Spain there existed what’s known as the Golden Age, where Jews and Muslims, under amicable Mohammedan rule, grew intellectually and culturally. In the years preceding 1492, before Jews were completely expelled from Spain, they lived a grand Spanish existence, side by side with Muslims and various other Spaniards. Many of the ancient Jewish genealogical records from that era show Spanish surnames belonging to Jews. Some people are curious and quite surprised to find that their Spanish ancestors were actually Muslims or Jews.
