More than four thousand years before the Christian era, the Babylonians were culturing themselves in ways moderns might envy. That long ago, education was provided for both male and female, students studying texts written on clay tablets with a sharp engraving instrument. They studied mathematics, the zodiac and made use of the sundial and the crystal lens. Alongside their temples were observatories to study the heavens. The Babylonians must have enjoyed great beauty in their everyday lives in the colorful enameled tiles that adorned their buildings. The artisan filled his days designing vases, making jewelry and engraving into gold and bronze.
